My name is Ross Heywood and I live near Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand with my partner Toyoko on a rural property where we have 4 chickens, 1 Guinea Fowl named Twink and a part time hedgehog by the name of Harold.
By day I make jewelry and sell it locally at the Queenstown market. I work with Sterling Silver, 18ct gold, Bronze or anything that floats my boat. My designs have been described as being very Scandinavian. Clean and simple.
To all you lovers of fashion: My jewelry is owned by Glenn Marziali. He is a New York based make up artist. His clients include Heidi Klum, Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, Paloma Faith and Tyra Banks. I am also a keen photographer.
Bellow is a bit of a blurb about me and my history:
Ross was born in Invercargill New Zealand. After spending eight years in the Royal New Zealand Air Force as an electronics ( Avionic ) technician he did a bone carving course at the Wanganui Summer School of the Arts under Owen Mapp. Then after doing a jewelry apprenticeship he moved to Queenstown where he pursued a career in the arts. Initially he made his mark bone carving achieving 1st and 2nd place in his category in the 1996 Canadian Wildlife Carving Championships. In 1999 he was invited by Owen Mapp to exhibit his work in a three month exhibition in Prague Czech Republic with 11 other NZ carvers. In 2005 he had his first solo jewelry exhibition in Osaka Japan at Gallery T.K. Art. 2008 saw his work on the catwalk at Queenstown’s annual fashion show, Fashion on Q, at Peregrine winery.
