Screenprint

Paper size in millimetres: 405 x 560
Edition of 75 printed, signed and numbered by Steve Hikaiti

Simply titled “New Zealand” this print combines the outline of New Zealand with the Hei Matau (fish hook symbol rich in meaning from Maori legend). According to Steve this print symbolises that New Zealand has been found in much in the same way that he has himself found a medium for self-expression through art. Hikaiti writes that "this image of New Zealand gives us a sense of our existence, of how New Zealand is an island nation very much alone in the world.”

This original screen print has been hand printed by the artist onto very high quality Artistico Fabriano paper. The final screens were exhaustively worked up by Steve who spent days working the overlays of each print to achieve an amazing sense of depth and clarity in his superb series of contemporary Maori art design prints.
