Matakauri slays the Giant of Wakatipu. Maori legends has it that the beautiful Manata was tied by a special rope to a giant demon named Matua and the brave Matakauri was sent to rescue her. When his attempts failed Mataua's tears softened the rope and she was freed. Matakauri lit a fire to keep Manata warm as she slept Hungry for revenge Matua fanned the flames and burned himself up causingg the snow to melt and pour over his ashes to form the lake we now know as Wakatipu.
The necklace it's self is quality antiqued brass and chain with 34cm tip to tip. The clasp is toggle style so easy to apply. The setting is 30mm across and the orginal postage stamp is sealed under a glass dome. The penny is polished and lacqured so will not tarnish. I have included a photo of a first day cover that includes all 6 stamps from Maori legends so you can see them in the orginal form.The date of the penny will vary from the one pictured. Please do not get this necklace wet - the necklace is sealed but not water proof.
