A feathered wing pendant, hand-patinated to a deep black, is accented by an oval pebble of semiprecious moonstone. Both are hung from a brass based, matte black, rolo-style chain.
The wing pendant has been hand patinated by another artisan using a special mix of chemicals. I then sealed the wing with clear varnish to preserve the new finish.
Moonstone – or hecatolite – is a semiprecious stone made of two minerals: orthoclase and albite. These two are arranged in very thin layers. When light strikes the layers, it is scattered, in an effect called 'adularescence'. This effect is what gives moonstone the luminous, moonlit glow from which it takes its name. The beautiful pebble-shaped bead of moonstone in this necklace is translucent, clouded and feathered with white, with little flashes of blue depending on the light.
The necklace fastens with a matching, matte black lobster-claw clasp.
The moonstone can be flipped to either side of the raven-wing pendant, making this necklace reversible: you can wear it with the wingtip pointing to either the left or the right.
The 'Raven At Midnight' necklace measures 54.2cm, including the lobster-claw clasp and the ring, while the wing pendant measures 50mm lengthwise (including the little hanging loop at its top), and 16mm across at the widest point.
