Hand made from Rimu wood recovered from demolised homes following the Christchurch Earthquakes of 2011, this beautiful Catholic Rosary offers life and hope from tragedy. Over 5000 homes were damaged beyond repair in Christchurch following the devistating quakes; many homes with beautiful native New Zealand rimu that would otherwise be sold as scrap or building materials. But this wood has a story to tell - a story of the families who lived in these homes, their hopes, aspirations and sorrows. Rising from the rubble, this wood offers hope and inspiration - like the people of Christchurch - for anyone facing their own trials and tragedy.
The Maori people of New Zealand believe that the spirits of the gods and our ancestors reside within all living things, including the trees. This notion allows us to have an intimate connection with our environment; encouraging us to see ourselves in all living things. Offering a new life to this Rimu wood is offering respect and love to our ancestors - as well as ourselves - as we are all one; all connected.
These hand made rimu beads are reminisent of 16th Century rosaries and the crucifix is finished with glorious 100% recycled sterling silver. Each wooden bead is hand knotted into place on a hemp cord. The beads are between 1/4inch and 1/2inch in size and the crucifix measures 2.5inches long by 1 3/4inches wide.
Made with hands blessed personally by Pope John Paul II, this rosary is a true labour of love.
