Tangelo Tree Jewellery
Welcome to Tangelo Tree...
My name is Christine & I am the designer/maker at Tangelo Tree Jewellery.
Launched in 2012, New Zealand based Tangelo Tree was born out of a love of visual art, a passion for textiles/fashion and a desire to combine the two.
Since studying a Diploma in Textiles/Fashion & a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts, I have worked as a textiles technician, clothing designer, printmaker, art museum assistant and graphic artist. It is my fascination for textile design, love of handcrafted objects and strong desire to create that has led me to combine all disciplines and embark on jewellery design.
My work is characterised by the use of vibrant colour & strong geometric pattern, and the contrasting use of fabric & metal. I love the relationship between creativity & construction that jewellery making offers and like finding new ways of combining hard & soft materials in an artistic way. I am passionate about handmade enterprises, and create each piece myself from concept through to completion. We live in a culture of mass-produced goods, so I love the idea that consumers can become completely aware of the full creative process. I believe this process helps to form a close connection between the artist and the wearer.
I am influenced by a life long passion for art, fashion, architecture, music & the modern art movement. My background in graphic design has an inevitable influence on the way I work, in terms of design and attention to detail. It is the combination of this and my fascination with texture & colour that is signature to my work.
Tangelo Tree's debut collection offers limited edition pieces that are designed to transcend trends & seasons, stand out from the crowds & bring individuality to the wearer! My aim is to create timeless art pieces as an alternative to mass-produced items, to encourage classic design & quality production and hopefully to make something that the wearer loves, cares for and values on a deeper level.
